If covered by the IMO regulation B-3, the ship must discharge under regulation D-2 Ballast Water performance standard.

The Ship must carry out tests to show that it complies with this regulation.

The Ballast Water Management system in use must be approved by the administration.

A Ballast Water Record Book must be present and operational.

Ballast Water Latest Update 10th Feb 2015

Germany have become the latest country to ratify the Ballast Water Management Convention. The total number of contracting States to the BWM Convention has reached 37, representing 30.32% of the world tonnage.

The Ballast Water Management Convention will enter into force 12 months after ratification by 30 States, representing 35 per cent of world merchant shipping tonnage.

The adoption of the last set of Guidelines for the uniform implementation of the BWM Convention and the approval and certification of modern ballast water treatment technologies have removed the last barriers to the ratification of instrument and significant number of countries have indicated their intention to accede to this Convention in the near future.
